Organizational Context:
The post is located in the Web Communications Section in the Communications Division. The Web Communications Section is responsible for the overall management of the WIPO website and social media presences, including user-experience and content strategy; information architecture; design; and technical development. The Section provides guidance, standards, quality control and training throughout the Organization in support of online communications and user experience goals. The Section also manages the administration of the WIPO Intranet and wiki, and provides web analytics services to meet the needs of internal stakeholders.
As Digital Content Writer, the main role of the incumbent is to contribute to developing, managing and enhancing the impact of state of the art content for the WIPO website, working in close collaboration with content creators and publishers across WIPO. The incumbent also tracks, analyzes and reports on website data. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Head of the Web Communications Section.
Main duties:
The incumbent performs the following tasks:
(a) Write, edit and publish effective copy to promote WIPO’s products, services and events on the WIPO website and other online platforms.
(b) Prepare editorial style guidelines for the WIPO website in line with the WIPO brand, and based on the user experience strategy, information architecture and design in practice.
(c) Work with content owners to develop and update webpages, ensuring content is up-to- date, reader- and search-engine friendly, and consistent with brand, editorial, and graphic guidelines.
(d) Participate in the organization of training sessions. Draft training materials and provide training to staff on writing and preparing content for the web.
(e) Monitor, evaluate and analyze the impact of online communications through web statistics and analytics to ensure communication activities are targeted and effective. Propose changes for improvement and follow up on implementation. Update web analytics dashboards.
(f) Propose Search Engine Optimization (SEO) improvements for better search engine indexing and ranking and follow up on implementation.
(g) Perform other job-related duties, including providing backup to the Digital Communications Officer as required.
Education:
First-level university degree in communications, public relations, journalism, content marketing, digital media or other relevant discipline.
Experience:
At least three years’ professional experience in web communications or online journalism, including experience in web content management and web writing. Experience in using web editing and publishing tools including web Content Management Systems (CMS). Experience with web analytics and reporting.
