Lonely Planet’s content platform continues to evolve and seek partnerships and new sources of information. This role is accountable for developing and maintaining the ways Lonely Planet identifies and acquires the best travel and destination content providers and for managing relationships with these providers so Lonely Planet can produce the best products and advice. It needs to have an excellent understanding of how Lonely Planet defines high quality content so as to be able to effectively and proactively lead the development of a talent acquisition model. This role needs to work closely with the content team to ensure that talent acquisition keeps pace with the requirements of the evolving content model. It also needs to have a deep appreciation of changing traveller content needs across different platforms in order to ensure Lonely Planet becomes a leading brand for travel content in all of its forms.
Content for Lonely Planet includes (but is not restricted to) the written word, photographic and video images and geospatial data.

What Lonely Planet is looking for

Experience at a senior level of sourcing content and content providers globally

A good understanding of the commercial landscape of content, including having experience in the different models and legal parameters of content generation

Tertiary qualification, preferably post graduate in a relevant field

Strong networking skills, both digitally and face-to-face

A natural connector with demonstrable experience building relationships and making connections

A good understanding of how images and video can be procured and managed as a content asset

Deep understanding of content, ideally travel content, and the impacts of recent technology developments on travel content and content provision

Strong knowledge of travel and travellers, including the impact of technology and community on the evolution of travellers’ needs

Familiarity with what is occurring in both the online and print travel markets

Proven success in managing stakeholders and working within cross-functional teams

Consistently demonstrates diplomacy, problem-solving abilities and decisiveness

A professional, down-to-earth persona and creative entrepreneurial energy

Excellent commercial negotiation skills

Working knowledge of the impact of technology on content organisation (how it is ingested, administered and used), including content management systems, content architecture, metadata, content feeds, APIs and devices (incl tablets, mobile, laptops etc)
