The European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) is the Union’s agency dealing with the analysis of foreign, security and defence policy issues.
The EUISS is seeking to create a roster of qualified experts which may be involved in its projects and activities in Paris and Brussels.
Eligibility requirements
On the closing date for applications, candidates must fulfill all the following conditions:
– Be a national of a member state of the European Union;
– Enjoy full rights as a citizen attested by a recent extract from judicial records and/or certificate of good conduct;
– Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by national law on military service;
– Be physically fit to perform the required duties;
– Have a minimum of a Master’s degree and at least three years’ subsequent experience in a university, think tank, governmental or non-governmental organisation or similar;
The candidate must also have proven expertise and a record of publications in one of the following domains (currently covered only partially by the EUISS team):
– EDTIB and European defence markets;
– Cyber security and civil/infrastructure protection;
– Energy security and climate policy;
– Security governance in south-eastern Europe;
– Security and development in sub-Saharan Africa.

Selection requirements
Essential
- Excellent oral and written knowledge of English and at least one other official language of the EU;
- Proven experience in project management, as well as the organisation of workshops and conferences;
- Familiarity with the EU institutional environment and a record of collaboration with EU bodies;
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and diplomatic skills and ability to operate in a multi-national setting;
- Completion or near-completion of a doctoral programme (PhD) in a discipline relevant for the work of the EUISS;
- Very good knowledge of the work of the EUISS, the EEAS and the broader European foreign policy machinery.
