Press Assistant – Special Tribunal for Lebanon

Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Public Information and Communications Section (PICS), the incumbent will assist and help to co-ordinate the activities of the PICS on a daily basis:
Special_Tribunal_for_Lebanon•Assist with the analysis of current events in Lebanon and the media coverage of the work of the STL;
•Respond to a variety of inquiries and requests for information/documents from the press and other agencies;
•Draft, edit, finalize and monitor press releases, correspondence, media reports and other materials/communications;
•Assess current needs for a computerized mailing list; design, develop and maintain such mailing list;
•Provide specialized assistance and coordination of press briefings and other special events open to media; liaise with media personnel and provide notice of, and information on upcoming events;
•Evaluate and process accreditations of press media and other key constituents;
•Provide specialized assistance to officers in the composition and dissemination of all STL information communication products and services for the press and general public;
•Researches, compiles and presents basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services;
•Coordinates media coverage of important events – liaises with news and publications agencies, public relations firms, etc. to provide advance notice of, and information on, upcoming meetings, briefings and special events and to ascertain coverage requirements; coordinates technical arrangements and organizes and allocates space for visiting news, photo, TV and film personnel; evaluates and process application for STL security clearances/accreditations;
•Participates in the planning and coordination of major exhibits – liaises with relevant departments/agencies; drafts and edits reports, production schedules, press releases and related texts, and correspondence related to the planning and production of exhibits;
•Ensures availability and appropriate packaging of products for distribution at special events, exhibits, conferences, media functions, etc.;
•Develop audiovisual projects that could be incorporated in the communications strategy;
•Perform related duties as may be required.

Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered a fixed-term appointment of one year limited to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). Any subsequent extension(s) are subject to terms of the Tribunal’s mandate and/or the availability of the funds. The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is an international inter-governmental organization with its own independent legal identity and not a UN organization. However, STL follows the UN common system for benefits and entitlements to its staff members. UN staff members may also serve on loan from their parent department/office, if selected. Appointment against this post is on a local basis.
