Model European Union (MEU) Creta 2014, 22 – 26 October 2014, Heraklion
is the first MEU ever held in Greece.
MEU Creta 2014 will be first MEU held in the picturesque island of Crete. It is organised by a team of young professionals and students, under the auspices of AEGEE Heraklio and the Region of Crete.
One hundred participants from all around Europe and beyond will enjoy a 5-day simulation undertaking the roles of Ministers of the Council, Members of the European Parliament, Journalists and Chairs.
The conference starts on 22nd October with opening ceremony, academic speeches, workshops and mock debates to be held at Androgeo Venue, a conference room sponsored by the Municipality of Heraklion.
Participants will get a first-hand experience into the workings of the political system of the European Union by debating on two different legislative proposals, as released by the European Commission in reality.
Participants, in their roles as MEPs and Ministers, will deliver speeches, work on amendments to the proposals and organise majorities in order to shape the legislation to their advantage. While the Chairs moderate, and the MEPs and Ministers work on their draft proposals, Journalists will monitor and critically report on this process throughout the simulation.
If you are between 18 and 35 years of age with a solid interest in European politics and law, you are eligible to apply. MEU Creta accepts applicants from all disciplines beyond law, political science, and international/ EU studies, and all EU Member States (95% quota). It also accepts applications from non-EU citizens (5% quota). Among EU citizens, at least 35% Greek citizens will be accepted.
