Graduate Fellow for the Hague Symposium – IPSI

The International Peace & Security Institute (IPSI) is currently seeking a graduate fellow to assist with their summer Symposium on Post-Conflict Transitions and International Justice in The Hague, Netherlands. 

The position will commence January 15, 2015 and will run until August 15, 2015.  The fellow is expected to work 35 hours a week for the duration of the fellowship and spend 4 weeks in The Hague from June 28 to July 26.  Aside from the time in The Hague, the fellow will be based in their Washington, DC office.

As an IPSI fellow, you will play a crucial role in IPSI’s day-to-day operations and larger strategic impact.  IPSI empowers the next generation of peacemakers. Founded on the core belief that education can mitigate violent conflict, IPSI facilitates the transfer of knowledge and skills to a global audience from the world’s premier political leaders, academic experts, practitioners, and advocates. The Institute develops comprehensive training programs, advances scholarly research, and promotes efforts to raise public awareness of peace and security issues.

THE HAGUE SYMPOSIUM ON POST-CONFLICT TRANSITIONS & INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE

You will provide support before, during, and after the Symposium and work collaboratively with the Program Director to organize and prepare for the Symposium.  The Symposium provides a unique opportunity to learn directly from top decision makers in the field and experts at the international tribunals about the multifaceted challenges and demands of a post-conflict society, including security, development, governance, and social well-being.  Participants gain a broad understanding of concepts, controversies and institutions surrounding the implementation of international justice through experiential learning activities and case studies. They also critically examine the historical experiences of other tribunals, hybrid courts, and truth commissions in addressing grave crimes and providing redress for victims.

Benefits

The fellow will receive a stipend of $750/month for the duration of the fellowship.  Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to spend 4 weeks in the international justice capital of the world, The Hague.  Your round-trip airfare, your accommodations and some of your meals in The Hague will be covered by IPSI.  During the Symposium, not only will you become part of a network of students and young professionals from around the world, but you will also have the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the world’s leading experts on post-conflict transitions and international justice.
