It is cleare that internships are a key part of the employment landscape, especially for young people entering the labour market. In many sectors, it is impossible to get genuine employment without completing internships.
Internships are here to stay. But are they fit for purpose? Do they deliver real benefits for trainees, for businesses and for society? Do they need clearer regulation?
One year has passed since the European Council adopted the European Commission’s recommendation on a Framework for Quality Traineeships. But what is the reality for young Europeans, and where do we go next? This two stage event, organised by the European Parliament Stagiaires’ Association and the Brussels Interns NGO ASBL, offers:
- A seminar about the origins and implementation of the Council recommendation. Speakers include Tamás Várnai (DG EMPL), the Commission official behind the original recommendation.
- A podium discussion and Q&A with key stakeholders in the debate. Participants include:
-
- European Parliament Vice-President Ulrike Lunacek (Greens-EFA)
- MEP Jutta Steinruck (S+D)
- MEP Maria Arena (S+D)
- Glenn Vaughan, Chief Executive, British Chamber of Commerce
- Tinkara Oblak, Board Member (European Youth Forum)
