This internship is located in the English Translation Section, Languages Service, Division of Conference Management, Geneva. The internship is not paid and full-time (five days per week). The Division of Conference Management of the United Nations Office at Geneva provides the infrastructure and the necessary expertise to ensure that conference events are properly planned, scheduled and serviced at the Palais des Nations, one of the largest conference centers in Europe.
The estimated starting date of this internship is 26 March 2015 and for a maximum period of 6 months.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the intern will be responsible for the following duties:
– Translate, for training and other purposes and subject to review, documents from one or more official languages of the United Nations: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish into the main language of the intern, which must be another official language of the United Nations.
– Edit documents for grammar, style and format, primarily in English but also in other official languages of the United Nations, using editorial tools and databases; original submissions from Member States in other official languages. Work will be reviewed with the intern by a senior member of the editorial team for training purposes;
– Perform other related duties as required, including terminological work, creation of translation memories, and, in the case of interns assigned to the English Translation Service, drafting of summary records of meetings.
Education
Applicants must:
– be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree, and must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
