LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY advertises three positions as
PhD students (licentiate) in Environmental Management and Engineering
formally based at the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI).
Background
In a resource-constrained world the need for a transition from linear to circular economy is urgent. Mistra REES – Resource-Efficient and Effective Solutions based on circular economy thinking – is a 4-year research program that addresses design of products, services, businesses models and policy for resource efficiency. The program brings together leading Swedish universities, large and small companies and societal actors to advance the transition of Swedish manufacturing industry towards a circular economy.
Research focus
In order to carry out this research, it is critical to have a solid engineering background with focus on product and/or service design.
As a Ph.D. student, you will develop design methods for REES and evaluate the methods according to the needs of industry and society. The three Ph.D. students will be provided with clearly differentiated research topics along the REES development process. This will include making an inventory of what design methods are used in industry to support the development of REES, and furthermore, to describe the user experiences at the participating companies.
This implies that the Ph.D. candidate will develop knowledge in the area of product/service development incorporating environmental aspects (e.g. ecodesign). The knowledge to be developed shall advance the scientific state of the art as well as contribute to leading manufacturers’ competitiveness. The Ph.D. candidate will do the research in close collaboration with all other researchers involved in REES, companies, both large and SME, as well as with internationally recognized researchers in the area.
