The European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) is the Union’s agency dealing with the analysis of foreign, security and defence policy issues.
Under the supervision of the Financial Officer, the Accounting Assistant will assist in the following responsibilities:
– Validation and execution of payments;
– Collecting revenue and maintaining the revenue ledger;
– Maintaining the general ledger;
– Controlling bank accounts;
– Treasury and cash-flow management;
– Keeping an audit trail for all accounting transactions;
– Filing all accounting documentation in an appropriate manner;
– Handling the procedural and accounting aspects of financial operations;
– Following-up on recovery orders for amounts receivable and quarterly reclaiming of VAT;
– Ensuring the reconciliation between the budget and the general ledger;
– Management of customer and supplier accounts;
– Management of assets register;
– Preparing and presenting the annual accounts;
– Establishing accounting analyses and reconciliations;
– Implementing the accounting rules and methods and the chart of accounts in accordance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS);
– Liaising with the EUISS College of Auditors during their control and audit missions;
– Performing other accounting tasks if required.
Selection criteria
Essential:
– Proven experience in the functions and tasks described above;
– Knowledge of and experience with IPSAS;
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
– Computer literacy and familiarity with the most common accounting software;
– Good knowledge of English or French, with good working knowledge of the other language.
Preferential:
– Certified Professional Accountancy qualification or national equivalent;
– Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX software;
– Relevant work experience in similar positions in European institutions and/or agencies
