The Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) of the European Commission is seeking to recruit translators on the basis of temporary contracts of a maximum duration of three years.
Place of employment: Brussels.
Successful applicants will be required to translate documents into Irish from English and a second official EU language.
The selection tests will comprise:
1. Written tests
Test A – a translation into Irish from English (total points 60 – pass mark 30);
Test B – a translation into Irish from another EU official language (except English) chosen by the candidate (total points 20 – pass mark 10); candidates must state in their cover letters their choice of source language for Test B.
Candidates may use their own non-electronic (paper format) dictionaries in Tests A and B.
2. An oral test
Test C – an oral test intended to assess the candidate’s professional skills and general knowledge of EU affairs as well as his/her ability to adapt to a multicultural environment
(total points 20 – pass mark 10).
Candidates who obtain at least an aggregate mark of 60 out of 100 and the pass mark for each test, will be placed on the reserve list for possible recruitment.
