The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is one of the largest independent conservation organizations in the world, active in almost 100 countries. It has been working in the Congo Basin in Central Africa for more than 20 years. Their mission is to stop the environmental degradation in the world and build a future where humans live in harmony with nature.
They seek a Central Africa Forest Programme Coordinator who will ensure the effective development, implementation and monitoring of the sub-regional and national forest components of the Central Africa Forest Strategy.
Location:
Yaoundé, Cameroon (with options to be based in another Central Africa capital city)
Main responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director, Central Africa Countries, the Forest Programme Coordinator:
- Leads in close coordination with National Offices the development of WWF Central Africa’s forest programme;
- Ensures the Central Africa Forest Strategy is fully embedded and aligned with WWF new Global Impact Goals and with the Africa Conservation Framework, providing guidance for future implementation through Country Offices.
- Ensures the follow-up of activities in the matter of forest policy, utilization, conservation and industrialization of forest products in Central Africa. This also includes capacity building of civil society to get more and stronger partners for conservation;
- Serves as the Global Forest Trade Network (GFTN) Central Africa Coordinator, provides leadership and coordination support in the implementation of the GFTN-Central Africa Business Plan;
- Provides guidance to the WWF programme on Palm Oil in the Congo Basin.
- Provides information and advice related to WWF, Central Africa governments and regional institutions such as COMIFAC or ECCAS on forest management and land use planning policies;
- Based on national priorities in Central Africa country offices, provides technical and fundraising support to national forest programmes.
- Acts as REDD+ focal point for WWF work in Central Africa
