The Open Society Foundations are one of the biggest global actors on Roma issues and have spearheaded an unprecedented effort, working with Roma communities to secure Roma’s rightful position in European society.
The communications officer will design and implement the communications and outreach strategies for network Roma issues and provide support to program grantees by developing communications and advocacy strategies. The position will also be responsible for media outreach, assist with trainings, and work on Communications projects as needed.
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree required and four to six years of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
– Knowledge of Romani or Eastern European language preferred, fluent English required;
– Significant experience leading communications and/or advocacy efforts, preferably in the field of human rights, international development, European affairs;
– Excellent experience in the development of communications strategies;
– Excellent written skills in multiple formats including op-eds, press releases, strategy documents, and public emails;
– Excellent verbal, editorial, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills;
– Excellent computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office;
– Excellent knowledge of social media and its uses in advocacy;
– Excellent listening and communication skills with sensitivity to cultural communication differences;
– Knowledge and background in the field of Roma rights and advocacy desirable;
– Show discretion and ability to handle confidential issues;
– High level of self-motivation and at ease working independently when necessary;

– Attentive to detail and thorough in approach;
– Flexibility and willingness to work simultaneously on a wide range of tasks and projects and ability to prioritize tasks;
