The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy in the Computer Science and Communications Research Unit (CSC).
The CSC is a dynamic and competitive research unit of the University of Luxembourg focused on domains of Advanced Software Systems, Communicative Systems, Intelligent and Adaptive Systems, Information Security. Research projects of CSC are performed in close collaboration with two Interdisciplinary Centers of the university – SnT and LCSB.
Doctoral Candidate (PhD student) in Computer Science (m/f)
– Fixed-term contract 3 years, 40h/week
– Ref.: F1-07007
– Start date: July 2015
Area: Artificial Intelligence/ Optimization/ Machine Learning / Parallel Computing
Your Role
The team of Pascal Bouvry is conducting research on parallel computing and optimization techniques, in particular new research topics include decentralized optimization techniques that nevertheless lead to a good global behavior of the system, hybridizing exact approaches with metaheuristics and game theory.
The main application domains of the team fit the University of Luxembourg priorities:
- security, trust and reliability, for example, cryptology, intrusion detection, and reliable scheduling and routing on new generations of networks such as p2p, ad-hoc, and hybrids.
- sustainable development, for instance, Energy Efficient Data Centers
- systems biomedecine, for example, genomic sequencing, protein folding, genomic modeling
- Work Environment
Your goal will be to properly model the problems and then develop and improve next generations of decentralized algorithms. The validation will be done using realistic use cases coming from industry: e.g. 1- drone swarms evolving together, including key objectives such as area coverage, maximization of the flight lifespan, covering of planned targets; 2- new generation of decentralized algorithms for HPC & Cloud-based data centers resource management; 3 Cloud pricing models.
Application deadline: 16th June 2015
