Amnesty International are currently recruiting a volunteer for the International Fundraising Programme at the International Secretariat in London.
This Programme works with Amnesty International offices (known as sections and structures) individually and with the movement as a whole, on fundraising growth projects. It consists of three units: the International Projects Unit (IPU), the Resource Mobilization Unit (RMU) and the Global Major Donors unit. The volunteer will support all these teams, as well as the Programme Director and Programme Assistant.
RMU is a team working directly with sections and structures providing advice and assistance on Individual Giving programmes which are aimed at long term sustainable income and self-sufficiency. More than 80% of Amnesty’s revenue globally comes from individuals. RMU support sound fundraising practices including acquisition, retention and development.
IPU is responsible for increasing and securing money raised from grant giving bodies for AI human rights work. The main objectives of the unit are to raise money from charitable trusts, foundations and institutional donors through managing existing relationships and grants, developing projects for proposals and cultivating new relationships with potential donors.
The Global Major Donor unit at the IS works directly with the Secretary General lead on the IS’s major donor fundraising, including development and management of the Secretary General’s Global Council.
This position is voluntary (unpaid) 3-4 days a week for a minimum of 3 months. Amnesty International will cover daily local travel on the days that you come in and also provide a lunch allowance.
Tasks include:
- Conduct research into prospective donors (individuals / trusts and foundations) for the Major Donor programme and the International Projects Unit:
- Supporting the International Projects Unit in developing and writing grants proposals to foundations and other grant making organisations, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programmes to potential funders
- Support the International Projects Unit in assembling and submitting grants requests, including letters, proposals, budgets and presentations.
- Answering routine correspondence
- Processing invoices and expenses
- Assisting with programme meetings
- Assisting with the organisation of international meetings such as global and regional Skillshares
- Assist with the upkeep of our internal global intranet – uploading content onto the site and working to increase traffic to the site.
- Helping put together our internal newsletter for fundraisers, collaborating with fundraisers from across the globe to share information and news.
- Assisting with various administrative tasks including filing, photocopying etc
- Assisting other members of the International Fundraising Programme with their work as may be required from time to time
- Assisting with project work as required
