Under the supervision of the Head of Translation Unit, the incumbent will be expected to perform the following duties: convert final documents into PDF (Portable Document Format) from Word, and print and compare the two versions; ensure consistency between original documents and their translation or transcription, in terms of integrity, formatting and page content; ensure conformity of Section output with Section templates, file naming, numbering, stylistic and transliteration conventions; assemble large documents from material from disparate sources, ensuring fidelity to the original text, in terms of integrity, formatting, etc.; perform advanced text-processing tasks, reproduce complex tables, figures, etc.; produce correctly formatted typewritten texts from sources including handwritten texts and audio recordings and insert corrections and revisions on existing typewritten texts; ensure that the content of the Section’s electronic document management systems is accurate, correctly processed and stored, carry out searches, and produce system extracts and reports; finalise and deliver documents; perform basic language work, e.g. proof-reading, basic translation tasks; work with minimum supervision, adhere strictly to deadlines, meet high productivity levels, take the initiative in performing tasks and in suggesting and implementing improvements to working methods; provide training, guidance and support to staff/contractors in the processing of basic and more complex documents; be willing to adapt, cross-train, work in a team and deputise for absent colleagues; maintain confidentiality and comply with STL and Section information security guidelines; perform coordination, administrative and other tasks as required.
Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered a temporary appointment until 31 December 2014 limited to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). This appointment and any subsequent extension(s) are subject to terms of the Tribunal’s mandate and/or the availability of the funds. The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is an international inter-governmental organization with its own independent legal identity and not a UN organization. However, STL follows the UN common system for benefits and entitlements to its staff members. UN staff members may also serve on loan from their parent department/office, if selected. Appointment against this post is on a local basis.
