Overall purpose:
The mission of the Freedoms and Justice Department is to develop and provide policy relevant research findings on the situation of fundamental rights in the EU with respect to the following fields: asylum, immigration and integration of migrants, including visa and border control; information society, respect for private life and protection of personal data; access to justice, including the situation of victims of crime. In addition, the department hosts the Agency’s statistics and surveys sector, which is responsible for the different survey work and statistical analysis undertaken by the Agency.
In order to report on the situation in the European Union regarding fundamental rights, the Agency undertakes both legal and social science research through its two research departments – Freedoms and Justice, and Equality and Citizens’ Rights. Both departments undertake primary fieldwork research consisting of data collection and information gathering, as well as analyses of available secondary sources. The research outputs from the Agency provide policy-relevant conclusions and opinions, which are targeted at EU institutions and Member States.
The Freedoms and Justice Department is composed of four sectors:
- Asylum, Migration and Borders
- Information Society, Privacy and Data Protection
- Access to Justice
- Statistics and Surveys
Functions and Duties:
The job holder will work in the Freedoms and Justice Department under the supervision of the Head of Department and the Head of Sector for ‘Asylum, Migration and Borders’.
He/she will carry out research and analysis in relation to the fields of justice and home affairs, focusing on EU border management, immigration and asylum. The job holder will also assist in coordinating contractors and following-up research projects.
The responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to:
- Conduct legal research and analysis on fundamental rights issues in the field of justice and home affairs, with a specific focus on the area of EU border management, immigration and asylum;
- Draft high quality and sound legal analysis, in a manner which is accessible to non-experts;
- Apply the relevant Council of Europe and international law framework to the EU legal system;
- Support the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of research projects at all stages; this will necessitate detailed critique and feedback concerning research undertaken for the Agency;
- Contribute to the drafting of technical specifications for contracting external research and monitor contractors’ performance;
- Carry out administrative work in relation to all aspects of project planning and management;
- Make interventions at conferences, meetings and other events representing FRA’s findings and analysis;
- Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Head of Department.
The basic salary for grades 13, 14 and 16 are respectively € 3170, 61, € 3587, 37 and € 4592,43.
