Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief, Public Information and Communications, the incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to the following functions: Spokesperson for press and media, with a particular focus on journalists in Lebanon and the rest of the Arab world. Assist the Chief, Public Information and Communications in the development of the STL’s media strategy. Prepare information targeted to the media, general public or other specified groups through such means as press releases, statements, interviews, features, briefings for correspondents and visitors on issues related to Tribunal proceedings and its work – including by drafting press releases and media advisories. Address the media through press briefings and by organizing press conferences when requested by the Chief, Public Information and Communications. Advise senior officials of the Special Tribunal on the approach towards the media by recommending specific interviews and by briefings on anticipated questions. Assist the Chief, Public Information and Communications with communications with other Organs of the Tribunal. Evaluate results and impact of communications activities; reports on developments, trends and attitudes regarding the STL. Ensure internal distribution of important articles or reports on the work of the STL. Advise on media access to the STL and arrange for the provision of appropriate and available facilities for the media to report on the work of the Tribunal both on a day to day basis and for high interest events. Assist in the development and implementation of public media strategies related to the work of the Tribunal for international and regional dissemination to targeted audiences and the general public, with a particular focus on the Middle East.
The post will be based at the Tribunal’s Headquarters in Leidschendam, but will require extensive travel to Lebanon.
Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered a fixed-term appointment of one year limited to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). Any subsequent extension(s) are subject to terms of the Tribunal’s mandate and/or the availability of the funds. The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is an international inter-governmental organization with its own independent legal identity and not a UN organization. However, STL follows the UN common system for benefits and entitlements to its staff members. UN staff members may also serve on loan from their parent department/office, if selected.
The Tribunal reserves the right not to make any appointment to this vacancy, to make an appointment at a lower grade, or to make an appointment with a modified job description.
