Introduction
CERN’s Fire and Rescue Service (FB) is part of the General Infrastructure Services (GS) Department and, as part of its firefighting and rescue mission, is responsible for handling incidents and accidents of all types, throughout the CERN site, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These interventions may require cooperation with the emergency services in the Host States (France and Switzerland) and the involvement of other internal CERN services. The Fire and Rescue Service also carries out other assistance and training activities.
The Fire and Rescue Service comprises professional firefighters who have mostly been seconded from the emergency services of various CERN Member States and thus constitutes a pool of professional and practical experience from all over the world.
Functions
As a professional fire and rescue management officer in CERN’s Fire and Rescue Service (FB), you will:
- carry out and lead major, complex and/or sensitive rescue and/or firefighting operations, and coordinate with partner services within the Organization and the emergency services of the Host States;
- monitor and ensure the readiness of the Fire and Rescue Service’s personnel and equipment;
- under the responsibility of the Chief of Staff, define and implement the objectives for a particular domain, such as the publication of emergency plans and procedures, the management of the Safety Control Room (SCR), or preparation of exercises with our internal and external partners;
- develop collaborative relationships with the Fire and Rescue Service’s various partners;
- follow training and take part in exercises in accordance with the Fire and Rescue Service’s training plan and its annual training programme;
- prepare for and supervise events held at the Organization;
- lead and implement various Fire and Rescue Service projects;
- process information regarding operational activities and communicate it to the Chief of Staff;
- check, approve and distribute intervention reports.
