As a part of World Wide Fund for Nature – Greater Mekong, WWF-Myanmar was established in 2014 with the aim to support Myanmar’s development ambitions with a focus on spatial planning and biodiversity conservation in parallel with ecosystem services protection and sustainable livelihoods, to achieve a green economy. As part of this approach, WWF-Myanmar is supporting a Greater Mekong energy initiative which aims to build energy independence; and promote the use of new and renewable sources of energy, energy efficiency and conservation, and household use of alternative fuels. To support this initiative in Myanmar, WWF is now inviting national applications for the position of Energy Officer based in Dawei, Myanmar.
Major Function
The Energy Officer, will support the implementation of Energy related work including building engagement with community organisations and other NGOs in Myanmar, building capacity in and access to off-grid energy resources and ensuring equitable access and benefits are reflected in social safeguards of a regional energy plan.
He/she will then:

Work with the Energy Manager on mapping the energy sector, including key stakeholders and national planning processes

Pro-actively engage with local NGOs and CSOs via capacity-building and partnership facilitation networking and awareness-raising

Support the development of a pilot project for off-grid energy in at least one township and support the development of a regional energy plan

Build partnerships with private sector energy operators, including SMEs and providers of renewable energy solutions

Carry out capacity building and trainings for stakeholders on alternative and renewable energy solutions

Support the development of a working group for communities, SMEs, private sector and local government
-
Enable communities and SMEs to engage with the relevant levels for developing alternative energy solutions and equitable access

Contribute to the development of national policy to meet SE4ALL objectives
Required Qualifications
-
Master’s degree (preferable) in energy, international development or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
-
At least 3 years of experience in the energy sector
-
Practical operational experience in sustainable energy
-
Experience in meeting facilitation and/or training delivery
-
Knowledge of the realities of government agencies, development partners, donor institutions, and the not-for-profit sector in the project
-
Knowledge of conservation and natural resource management issues
-
Proven understanding of policy/institutional context in related fields in Myanmar is an advantage
-
Experience in innovative sustainable energy solutions is an advantage
