Research Specialist

The Research Specialist will work in a developmental biology laboratory, assisting principally by performing experiments for a parasitology project. Will maintain and propagate various life cycle stages of the rat intestinal tapeworm Hymenolepis diminuta; Perform rodent-handling duties; Maintain in vitro parasite cultures; Assist laboratory personnel by independently performing a variety of cellular and molecular biological techniques; Analysis and interpretation of experiments.
This is a regular academic professional position, 12 month, 100%-time benefits eligible appointment. Eligibility for benefits are contingent on your citizenship or work authorization..
Salary is commensurate with experience. Start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the search. Applicants must possess required education and experience by start date of position. Desired skills and experience
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related discipline. Exceptional organization, problem-solving and communication skills. Able to work independently and interact well with a large and diverse research group. Familiarity with reading scientific primary literature. Strong basic computer skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One year experience working in a biology laboratory. Previous work with rodents or tapeworms.
- Experience in some, but not necessarily all, of the following: confocal and/or electron microscopy; molecular biology techniques; recombinant protein expression and purification.
