Technical Officer – Greenpeace

Greenpeace_logoJoin the Ships unit at Amsterdam to support Greenpeace ships to ensure the Greenpeace fleet’s technical supplies and services are adequately fulfilled and assist the Technical Manager maintain the ships to international standards.

Purpose of the job

To assist the Technical Manager to provide support and solutions for technical problems associated with the managed ships or equipment on them, in accordance with, international, national, Classification ISM code requirements and within the allocated budget, in order to ensure safe, efficient and cost effective use of Greenpeace equipment and managed vessels.

Main responsibilities

1. Equipment
Order and distribute equipment/vessel spare parts, fuel lubricants consumables and arrange service technicians around the world, in response to ship requests and according to set minimum/maximum stock levels and with the approval of the Technical Manager, in order to enable cost effective and efficient technical operations of managed ships and other equipment.

2. Technical Support
Provide and coordinate support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in cooperation with manufacturers, engineers, and specialists in order to ensure vessel/equipment technical problems are resolved efficiently and effectively. Monitor the fleet’s planned maintenance system and give technical input and advice to the Technical Manager and ship’s staff and arrange services and surveys within the requisite time frames. Arrange necessary surveys in consultation with Technical and Operations Managers. Process and ensure timely payment of suppliers and contractor’s invoices.
Maintain the purchase order system and advise Technical Manager and ship’s staff of status of requisitioned spares and consumables.

3. Monthly reports
Review operational, technical monthly reports, as received from managed ships, in order to identify and inform Operations/Technical Managers of potential difficulties in advance.
Review monthly budget reports and advise Technical Manager of any inconsistencies and necessary recodes.

4. Advise on actions/campaigns
Advise the Technical Manager on use or availability of action equipment in cooperation with Marine Logistics Coordinator, as required for ship campaign and NVDA (Non Violent Direct Action) plans in order to ensure equipment is used safely, effectively and efficiently in furthering campaign objectives.

5. Cover for Technical Manager
Cover and fill in for the Technical Manager in their absence, in order to ensure ships are performing to the required technical standards within the allocated budget.
