OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
Objectives of the Programme :
To ensure the continuing availability to Member States of valid scientific, technical, managerial and other information relating to health, in printed or other forms. The unit ensures the availability of such material in English and French, official languages of WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region.
Purpose of the Post:
To provide English/French translation within the Editorial, Graphics and Publishing Support Unit, Division of Information, Evidence and Research.
Organizational Context :
Under the direct supervision of the Translator/Editor and overall guidance of the Coordinator, Knowledge, Languages and Publishing, the incumbent will provide high quality English/French translation on a wide variety of texts dealing with medicine, public health and related subjects as well as administrative, financial and legal matters, and contributing to the establishment of accurate terminology in French. The incumbent is expected to work in close collaboration with colleagues and the level of revision required should decrease as more experience is gained. Relevant guidelines include WHO’s General Programme of Work, WHO publishing policy including web policy and EMRO publishing guidelines, WHO style manuals, resolutions of governing bodies, WHO and United Nations terminology standards and international publishing standards and guidelines.

Summary of Assigned Duties :
1) Translates from English into French, and vice versa occasionally, official documentation of governing bodies, correspondence and technical and non-technical materials of varying degrees of complexity;
2) Checks daily for new content submitted to the web workflow, translates and posts content to the web site;
3) Identifies new terminology material and submits it to the consideration of Translator/Editor.
